ASB has been preparing for the WASC self study and visit for the past two years. Working with WASC is a collaborative process that provides us the chance to partner with educational professionals across the region in helping our school continuously improve through a series of important criterion.
After meeting with the ASB Leadership Team on Sunday for an orientation to the visit, the WASC Visiting Committee then spent the first full day at the Sukhumvit campus, the second day at the Green Valley campus, the third day back at the Sukhumvit campus, and then the last day finishing their research and writing their report.
The WASC team based their research on the report compiled by all members of ASB and written by Dr. Thomas Yates and Teresa Fry. It is this 160 page report that was the cornerstone for how the WASC Visiting Committee better understood ASB and conducted their own research throughout the week.
The WASC team visited dozens of classes in progress, and talked extensively to students, parents, teachers, staff, and leadership. They also met with special focus groups that were doing research on the school’s curriculum, student services, facilities and resources, as well as other areas of the school. The WASC team’s exhaustive research and interviewing process ensured that they compiled a full profile of ASB so that they could work with us in developing an action plan for the next several years that is sure to bring the school forward in many ways.
The main findings of the WASC Team were to:
● Continue to build our communication with all school stakeholders and with the outside business community.
● Find new and innovative ways to enrich the ASB school curriculum.
● Ensure that we are serving our school’s ELL population as well as possible.
● Build on our current technology to enhance our students’ learning capacity.
● Maximize the capacity of our highly trained and experienced school staff.
We are excited to start working on our action plan, and through this positive and collaborative process know that we can become even more full of potential and reach an even higher level of excellence in building the leaders of tomorrow.
